On Monday 17 October 2016 we started our 9 months travel by flying to Holguín, Cuba. The countries we travel to – next to Cuba – are Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and eventually Colombia – 10 Latin American countries in total. At the moment, we are in Guatemala.
Besides travelling and being tourists, we take pictures, write stories and make short documentaries about young people in Latin America. Some of the questions that drive us: What moves those young people in Latin America? What’s their ambition, what’s their passion? The results we share on this website and via social media (Facebook and Instagram).
And who are “we” actually? We are Jelena Gregorius and Frank ten Elsen, a couple dating for more than 3 years now. We used to live in Hilversum, a small city close to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We gave up our apartment and jobs to take time to travel through Latin America and realise this project.
Jelena is 24 years old, born in Germany and has been living abroad for more than 5 years already. Her stops included Bolivia, the Netherlands, and Hungary. She just finished her Bachelor in International Project Management and is very passionate about politics, democracy, and development. The last months, she conducted research and worked for the Dutch political foundation NIMD.
Frank turned 25 years old in Cuba in October. He’s born in the East of the Netherlands and moved to the West of the country to work for the Dutch public broadcaster NPO in 2012. Frank likes travelling (especially through the Balkans and the Baltics), he is interested in journalism, and last but not least, he likes to play table tennis. End of September 2016 he quit his job to do this travel.
